Our Beliefs

At Iron Will Life Church, we hold to these foundational beliefs.

  • The Trinity

We believe the testimony of both the Old and New Testaments, along with the witness of the historic Christian Church, reveals that God is both one and triune. Scripture declares that there is only one God, and that He eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

    Scripture: 2 Corinthians 13:14 | John 1:14 | Matthew 28:19 | Matthew 3:16-17

  • God

We believe God the Father is the creator and sustainer of all things. In love, He created the universe and made man in His own image for fellowship with Himself. After the rebellion and fall of man, He called humanity back to Himself through Christ.

    Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16 | Hebrews 4:12 | 1 Peter 1:23-25 | 2 Peter 1:19-21

  • Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ is eternally God. He was with the Father and the Holy Spirit from the beginning, and through Him all things were made. For the redemption of man, He came from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit through the virgin Mary. He remains forever one Christ with two natures, fully God and fully man, in one person.

    Scripture: John 1:1-14 | Romans 1:1-4 | John 3:16 | Matthew 28:18-20 | John 14:5-14 | John 10:22-39 | Galatians 4:1-7 | Hebrews 4:14-16 | Luke 1:26-38 | Matthew 1:18-24 | 1 Timothy 2:5-6

  • Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is God, the Lord and giver of life. He was active in the Old Testament and was poured out upon the Church in fullness at Pentecost. We recognize Him as the third person of the Godhead. He empowers believers for service and witness, cleanses man from the old nature, and transforms us into the image of Christ. We believe the baptism in the Holy Spirit, subsequent to conversion, releases the fullness of the Spirit and is evidenced by the fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit. He is our Advocate, Comforter, and Guide.

    Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 | Luke 11:13 | John 7:37-39 | John 14:16-17 | John 16:7-14 | Acts 2:1-18

  • The Bible

We believe the Bible, made up of the Old and New Testaments, is the only infallible and inspired Word of God. Its authority is ultimate, final, and eternal. It cannot be added to, taken away from, or replaced in any way. Scripture is the source of doctrine, instruction, correction, and reproof. It contains all that is necessary for godly living and practical Christian conduct. The Bible is the Word of God, and Jesus is the Word. Therefore, the Word reveals both who God is and what His will is.

    Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16 | Hebrews 4:12 | 1 Peter 1:23-25 | 2 Peter 1:19-21

  • The Atonement

We believe Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross paid the penalty for the sins of the whole world. The benefits of His sacrifice are applied to those who receive Jesus as their personal Savior. Healing for body, soul, and spirit, along with all of God’s provision for His saints, has been made available through the atonement, but these promises must be received by faith.

    Scripture: Acts 4:12 | Romans 4:1-9 | Romans 5:1-11 | Ephesians 1:3-14

  • The Fall of Man

We believe that man, in his natural condition, is a sinner, lost, fallen, without hope, and without God. Though humanity is God’s most precious creation, and though He gave His very best for every person who would ever be born, each individual must personally receive Him.

    Scripture: Romans 3:19-23 | Galatians 3:22 | Ephesians 2:1-2, 12

  • Baptism in the Holy Spirit

We believe the baptism in the Holy Spirit, with the primary evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, is for all believers, as promised by John the Baptist, Jesus, and Peter. This promise was fulfilled in the lives of the early disciples of Christ and continues to operate in many present-day disciples of Jesus Christ.

    Scripture: 1 Corinthians 14 | Matthew 3:11 | Acts 1:4-8 | Acts 2:38-41 | Acts 2:4 | Acts 10:44-47 | Acts 19:1-6

  • Salvation

We believe the Word of God clearly teaches that salvation is the free gift of God, made available through the death of His Son and received by faith. Salvation comes through personal repentance, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for justification, and personal acceptance of Him as Lord and Savior for regeneration. New life in Christ includes adoption and inheritance in the kingdom of God’s beloved Son. Salvation is an act of free will in response to God’s personal love for mankind. It is predestined only in the sense that God, in His omniscience, foreknew those who would choose Him. Salvation is secure in the eternal and unchanging commitment of God, who does not lie and remains forever the same. Genuine salvation should result in a life of loving obedience and service to Jesus Christ.

    Scripture: Acts 4:12 | Romans 4:1-9 | Romans 5:1-11 | Ephesians 1:3-14

  • The Christian Life

We believe the Scriptures describe the Christian life as a balance between what has been imputed to us in Christ and what is imparted to us according to our faith and maturity. God’s provision for His children is complete, and His promises are sure and everlasting. The shortcomings found in individuals and in the Church are the result of the ongoing process of sanctification. The Christian life includes trials, testing, and spiritual warfare against a real enemy. For those who abide in Christ until death or until His return, the promises of eternal blessing in God’s presence are assured. Faithfulness through every season of life requires dependence on the Holy Spirit and a willingness to die to personal desires and passions.

    Scripture: Matthew 7:21 | Matthew 16:27 | Romans 12:1-3 | 2 Corinthians 6:17 | Galatians 6:14 | Ephesians 5:11 | Colossians 3:17 | Revelation 20:12

  • The Church

We believe the purpose of the Church is to fulfill the Great Commission by making disciples of all nations and presenting the saints complete in Christ. We believe the Church is governed by the five-fold ministry described in Ephesians 4, along with the offices of elder, deacon, and other scriptural offices. We believe church governance should reflect a balance between congregational and eldership authority, while recognizing the final authority of church leadership. It is essential to the life of the Church that biblical discipline be practiced and that both individual and corporate oversight be carried out by the leadership of the Church.

    Scripture: Acts 10:34-35 | 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 | Matthew 16:18 | Matthew 28:19-20 | Acts 2:20-28 | Ephesians 4:15 | Ephesians 5:22-32 | 1 Timothy 3:15

  • Divine Healing

We believe God has used doctors, medicine, and other natural means as channels of healing. We also believe divine healing is provided for believers through the atonement secured by the blood of Jesus on the cross. Divine healing may be received through the laying on of hands by the elders, through the prayer of a person anointed and gifted by the Holy Spirit for healing, or through personal faith in receiving what God has provided.

    Scripture: Isaiah 53:5 | 1 Peter 2:24 | James 5:14-16 | 1 Corinthians 12:9 | Mark 11:23-24

  • Baptism and Communion

We believe the Word of God gives the Church two continuing ordinances instituted by the Lord Jesus Christ. The first is water baptism, which is the outward sign of what God has already done in the believer’s life and a testimony that the person now belongs to Jesus. It identifies the believer with Christ and is administered in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The second is the Lord’s Supper, which commemorates the death of the Lord and is observed in remembrance of Him until He returns. It is a sign of our participation in Him. Both ordinances are for believers.

    Scripture: Matthew 28:19 | 1 Corinthians 11:24-26

  • Eschatology

We believe in the bodily and personal second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the saints, the millennium, and the final judgment. We believe the final judgment will determine the eternal state of both the saved and the unsaved according to their relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We also affirm the final state of the new heavens and the new earth.

    Scripture: Matthew 23:39 | Romans 11:15 | Acts 1:10-11 | 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 | 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 | James 5:8 | Revelation 1:7 | John 14:2-3 | Romans 8:34 | John 5:24-30 | Jude 5-7 | 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 | 1 Corinthians 4:1-5 | Matthew 25:31-46 | Revelation 20:11-15

  • Heaven and Hell

We believe Scripture clearly teaches both eternal punishment for the unsaved and eternal salvation and joy for the saved. We believe in a literal hell for the unsaved and a literal heaven for the saved.

    Scripture: Matthew 25:34, 41, 46 | Luke 16:19-31 | John 14:1-3 | Revelation 20:11-15

  • Marriage

We believe God, our Creator, established marriage as a sacred covenant between one man and one woman. We affirm that marriage, as ordained by God and revealed in Scripture, is and has been the union of one man and one woman. This understanding of marriage is the only definition of marriage that will be recognized and accepted by this Church.

No elder, employee, person, corporation, organization, or entity under the direction or control of this Church may commit any act, omission, or make any decision that would be inconsistent with, or could reasonably be perceived as inconsistent with, this conviction and this Church’s commitment to the traditional biblical definition of marriage.

This Marriage Policy prohibits the use of any Church property or assets, whether real, personal, intangible, or otherwise, in any way that would be inconsistent with, or could reasonably be perceived as inconsistent with, this Church’s belief concerning marriage. This includes the use of church facilities by any individual, group, organization, or corporation in a way that could intentionally or unintentionally communicate support for any definition of marriage other than the traditional biblical definition upheld by this Church.

We believe this Marriage Policy is founded on the will of God for human life as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, upon which this Church is established and anchored. Therefore, this policy is not subject to change by popular vote, referendum, prevailing public opinion, government influence, official action, or legal developments at the local, state, or federal level.

    Scripture: Genesis 2:18-25 | Ephesians 5:22-33 | 1 Corinthians 7:39-40 | Romans 7:1-3 | Genesis 1:26-31 | 1 Corinthians 7:1-7

We manage Heaven’s resources for the Father’s business. The cry of a good steward is, “It will never be mine. It will always be Yours.” When given the choice between an ownership mindset and an employment mindset, we choose stewardship.

Scripture: Matthew 25:14-30 | 1 Kings 3:16-28 | Psalm 24:1

Holiness

We simply want to be like Jesus, holy, set apart to God, and fully surrendered to the Refiner’s fire. The closer we draw to Him, the more we become like Him. Holiness is found in the presence of God. Our cry is, “Make me like You, Jesus. Make me holy.”

Scripture: Romans 6:19 | 1 Peter 1:15-16 | Hebrews 12:14 | Revelation 4:8 | 2 Timothy 1:9 | 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8

Gratitude

Gratitude pleases the Lord. Whether we are walking through valleys or standing on mountaintops, gratitude is the answer. Gratitude is the posture of the heart that chooses thankfulness in all things and brings glory to the Lord. It keeps us in the presence and favor of God. Because He first loved us, we will remain forever grateful.
